Abstract

This paper studies the mechanism of product quality information transmission when both word of mouth and repeat purchase exist. We find that when consumers are passive about the quality of product in the market, high-quality product tends to signal its quality via low price and sales control. More effective word of mouth and repeat purchase lead to more prominent hunger marketing strategy. Our study provides an economic explanation of hunger marketing strategy.
