Abstract

To meet the pressing demand for massive distributed energy resources to join the grid, a brand new control architecture-Web of Cell architecture is introduced for power system in the context of smart grid. Its concept is explained and the features are summarized first. Then, after a comparison between the Web of Cell architecture and the centralized control architecture, between cell and microgrid, and also between cell and active distribution network, the advantages and feasibility of the Web of Cell architecture in future power system are fully reflected. Further analysis of voltage and frequency control structure and operating modes of the Web of Cell are carried out, and key technical issues pointed out. Finally, subsequent developments and research directions of the new architecture are prospected to provide advice and suggestions for future smart grid.
