Abstract

The short continues driving mileage is always the bottleneck of the electric vehicle (EV) development. Compared to battery recharge, battery exchange has several distinct advantages such as time saving for EV replenishment and low impulse load for the Power Network. In this paper, a vision-based robot was used to deal with the battery swapping work for the electric bus. The Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) is used for automatic detecting the spatial location of the battery based on images captured by a single camera mounted on the battery swapping robot. The experimental results has proved the robustness of the SIFT algorithm.
