Ultrasound Pupil Image Segmentation Based on Edge Detection and Detection Operators

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

Ultrasound imaging technology is developing rapidly and ultrasound images can provide a lot of information for doctors to diagnose. However, the same tissues and organs show large differences in edge strength in ultrasound images which may cause difficulty in segmentation and analysis. A new method is proposed in this paper, which integrates edge detection operator with our proposed detection operators. We first use canny edge detection and our proposed operators to find three points on the pupil, and then use these three points to draw a circle, which is the contour of the pupil. Such an algorithm can eliminate the effect of edge blur on ultrasound pupil segmentation. The proposed algorithm was tested on 100 ultrasound pupil images. Experimental results show its effectiveness for ultrsound pupil image segmentation.
