Abstract

It is concluded from the comparison and analysis of filtrated water quality and running cost between direct filtration using low pressure membrane and traditional filter filtration that direct filtration using low pressure membrane can replace traditional filter filtration with better economic and social effects when the temperature and the turbidity of raw water are lower. With the turbidity of treated water below 1 NTU, the filtration speed can go up to 20 m/h, and the filtration duration can be 150 hours. The raw water can be filtrated by membrane equipment without coagulant, and in addition, the membrane is not contaminated seriously after running for a long period. The process of backwashing is easy and practical, and the pressure needed for the direct filtration with low pressure membrane is far lower than that in regular membrane module.
