Abstract

To improve the treatment efficiency of SBR (Sequence Batch Reactor)and shorten the separation time of treated sludge and sewage, a new method combining the biological technology employing nano-ferromagnetic powder and the magnetic separation process is presented to treat starch wastewater. By adding got-up nano-ferromagnetic powder suspension(Fe3O4)into the SBR reactor, magnetizing and domesticating the common activated sludge, as well degrading the organic matter in wastewater with ferromagnetic zoogloea, the magnetic mixed liquid and biologic flocculation were separated quickly under magnetic field. And the comparison was conducted with SBR process. Results show that the domesticating maturation time of ferromagnetic-powder activated sludge is short; the growth rate, concentration, sedimentation capability, unit volume treatment capacity and capability to resist the impact load of the sludge are increased significantly. Under optimum operation conditions, the shortened time of aeration and deposition in the biological reactor is 2.0 h and 50 min. The average removal rates for COD, NH4+-N and TN are improved by 10%, 9.3% and 8.4%respectively. This new process is easy to operate and manage with great improvement of efficiency, thus has a broad application foreground.
