Abstract

A typical FEM model of large crossing transmission tower-lines system(LCTL) is established. The dynamic characteristics of freestanding tower and LCTL are analyzed. The effect of tower-line coupling is studied through the comparison of dynamic characteristic of the two systems based on the concept of 'mode group'. The performance of tuned mass damper(TMD)optimized with dynamic characteristics of LCTL is compared with that optimized with dynamic characteristics of freestanding tower. The results show that the dynamic characteristics of freestanding tower are significantly different from that of LCTL, and tower-line coupling affects the performance of TMD significantly for LCTL. TMD performance will be improved for LCTL when considering tower-line coupling effect.
