Toughening factors in ZTA ceramics having zirconia with various Y2O3 contents

Abstract

The strength, toughness and TEM microstructure were studied on composites of Al2O3 + ZrO2 with different Y2O3 content in ZrO2. It was found that the factors of toughening (grain size refinement, microcracking and dynamic t-m transformation) have different values in different materials.
