Abstract
Rain-wind induced vibration of an inclined cable is a complex problem of coupling oscillation of gas, liquid and solid. To integrally consider the influence of the cable vibration, multi-mode-freedom cable element is applied to imitate its dynamic curve. Moreover, both of the dynamic interactions of cable and water rivulet and the influence of its position to aerodynamic forces are taken into account before the nonlinear dynamic equations of the coupling system of cable and water rivulet are developed. Then Hurwitz discriminant is applied to study the kinematic stability of the system and the formula to calculate critical wind speed is deduced. At last an example is given to testify the theories derived.
