Abstract

Shape memory polymer (SMP) is one of the most fascinating materials, with the potential for application as “smart materials” and actively moving materials, which can change their shape in a predefined way between/among shapes in presence of an appropriate stimulus. The intention of this article is to present an up-to-date account of SMP blends and composites from basic principles to their potential applications of robots. Studies exploring design principles of thermochemical responsiveness and applications of smart robots were included, especially for SMP blends and composites as well as shape memory gels (SMGs).
