Abstract

A series of thermal explosion experiments were made with typical cast iron boiler parts to introduce the calculation of the cast boiler strength. The actual explosion pressures and modes of failures were obtained. The recommended strength formulas for cast iron boiler were developed by comparing the experimental results, including the formulas for boiler having rectangular box and that having elliptical box as well as the formulas to calculate the roundness and bending moment distribution of flats with hinged or fixed ends.
