Abstract
A TiAl-based alloy with nominal composition of Ti-43Al-5Nb-0.03Y has been developed, which solidifies through the β phase region. Hot extrusion experiment was carried out to gain fine and uniform lamellar micro structure, and tensile tests before and after hot extrusion were performed. The results show that banded microstructure of the Ti Al alloy can be avoided by hot working process. The better mechanical properties of as-extruded Ti Al alloy are attributed to the refinement of grain size and lamella structure. The main fracture is dominated by lamella de lamination in as-cast alloy and trans lamellar cleavage in as-extruded alloy.
