Abstract

In recent years, health monitoring for large span structures has been paid more and more attention. The design methods and functions of the intelligent health monitoring systems for large span structures are studied in this paper. The intelligent methods of monitoring automatically integral behavior and diagnosing unknown damage for large span complicated space structures under wind-exciting from limited sensor information are discussed in detail. In order to improve the reliability and stability of the intelligent health monitoring systems, the approaches of intelligent sensor system implementation is introduced, which is how to make sure the sensor system has the characters such as self zero bit check, self calibrate, self compensation, self diagnosis, noise repressing and so on. Some of the research results mentioned above have been applied into large-scale practical structural health monitoring systems including National Aquatic Center (simply named Water Cube), Shenzhen Civic Center, and Shenzhen Vanke Center and so on. The sensor type selection, the arrangement of the measuring point, the system integration, and the analysis of measured data of the practical projects are introduced in detail in this paper. The research result of this paper could provide a reference for the design and implementation of structural health monitoring for other similar structures.
