Abstract

The ozone aging of PE-EVOH (ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer) films, which is a kind of envelop material of near space vehicle, is studied in the paper. The ozone aging test of PE-EVOH films was performed in an ozone aging environmental apparatus with 600pphm ozone concentration. The mechanical property variation of the PE-EVOH film after ozone aging was investigated by mechanical tensile test and the results show that tensile strength of the PE-EVOH films decreases as the ozone aging time increases. The aging mechanism of the PE-EVOH film was analyzed using FTIR spectra analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM) images. The results reveal that mechanical and physical reactions were occurred between the PE-EVOH film and ozone, which leads to the decline of mechanical property of the PE-EVOH film.
