Abstract

The paper presents the numerical results to assess the hydrodynamic influence of the sea current impact on submerged floating tunnel (SFT). The approach based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with the two-equation k-ω shear stress transport (SST) model has been applied. The SFTs with a double ring contour in various variants (with continuous and local connections) were researhed through numerical simulation. Such possible dynamic effects as halloping and contour divergence were considered for the SFT’s local connection option. In addition, the optimization of the contour under considered conditions through determination of optimal clearance between the ring contours are presented. The task of harmonizing the combined effect of lifting force and drag force on the structure was solved.
