The Effect of Corrosion on the Shielding Effectiveness of Electrical Connectors

Abstract

Corrosion will affect the shielding effectiveness of the electrical connector. However, the changing characteristics of the shielding effectiveness may not be understood in a corrosive environment. With the purpose of evaluating the shielding effectiveness of the connectors after corrosion, an accelerated degradation experiment is implemented. The tube-in-tube method, as opposed to a triaxial method, is applied to measure the transfer impedance of experimental samples. The experimental results show that the shielding effectiveness of the connector can be significantly degraded after corrosion, but there is a lower limit for the deterioration of shielding effectiveness. This fact is also demonstrated by simulation.
