Abstract

After the signing of the Union Treaty with China, the Russian Empire officially received the right to build a railway in Manchuria, Harbin was chosen as the stronghold of the construction. The authors supplement the researches on the history of Harbin in 1898-1903, which seems important for understanding the process of urbanization in modern conditions.
