Abstract

The damping coefficient calculation formula of a finite length cylindrical squeeze film damper (SFD) was deduced, and a test was conducted via the pulse excitation method on an open-ended SFD, the test results were compared with the theoretical results and further analysis was performed to obtain the conditions and parameters affecting the damping coefficient of the SFD. It was shown that both the oil-supply way and the oil pressure have significant effects on the damping coefficient of the SFD; the pulse excitation method is more suitable of SFDs with smaller damping coefficient.
