Abstract

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study on domain configuration in LiTaO3 toughened Al2O3 ceramic composite was presented. LiTaO3 particles were located at the grain boundaries of Al2O3 matrix in both hot pressed 15LTA composite and pressureless sintered 10LTA composite. LiTaO3 melted in 15LTA composite during sintering, lead to significant growth of the surrounding Al2O3 matrix grains. Results showed that the LiTaO3 particles in hot pressed 15LTA composite were more restricted than those in pressureless sintered 10LTA after cooling.
