Abstract

The synthetic method of 4,4′-furylidene bisphenol with phenol and furfural as raw materials and H2SO4, H3PO4, KOH, N(C2H5)3 as catalysts was studied. The results showed that the yield of 4,4′-furylidene bisphenol reached 57.9% when the reaction proceeded for 3 h at 80 °C with isobutanol as solvent, N(C2H5)3 as catalyst and n (phenol) : n(N(C2H5)3) = 1.00:0.05. The antioxygenic activity of 4,4′-furylidene bisphenol was better than that of bisphenol A and BHT as determined by experiments.
