Synthesis, structure, and properties of a heterometallic coordination complex based on trimesic acid

Abstract

By the reaction of CaCl2, CoSO4•7H2O and trimesic acid, a novel heterometallic coordination complex [CoCa(HTMA)2(H2O)8]n has been synthesized. The structure was characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, UV spectra, TG, X-ray powder diffraction and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis reveals that complex crystallizes in the monoclinic C2/c space group, a = 1.78498(10) nm, b = 2.01539(4) nm, c = 0.65430(4) nm, V = 2.32814(21) nm3, Z = 4. In the complex, central Ca(II) ion is eight-coordinated, Co(II) ion is six-coordinated. The Ca(II) and Co(II) ions are bridged by H3TMA ligands to generate a 1D irregular folded chain, and adjacent chains are further packed into a 3D framework with strong π-π interactions. The TG analysis indicates the complex is stable below 108°C. The X-ray powder diffraction (PXRD) analysis confirms the product to be single phase.
