Abstract

A facile chemical co-precipitation and calcination method has been used to prepare (Gd 1-xEu x) 2Zr 2O 7(0≤x≤0.100) ceramic particles. (Gd 1-xEu x) 2Zr 2O 7 ceramic particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. (Gd 1-xEu x) 2Zr 2O 7 ceramic particles exhibit a single phase of defect fluorite-type structure. PL spectra show that the characteristic peaks correspond to the f-f transition 5D 0- 7F J (J=1, 2, 3, and 4) of Eu 3. The relationship between the structure of the PL spectra and the host lattice is discussed to identify the changes in intensity for different activation mechanisms.
