Abstract
The history and current research of descriptor linear systems are viewed, including solvability, regularization, impulse elimination, observer design, fault detection, and so on. Detailed advances are given for the special problems of descriptor systems, for example, controllability and observability, and impulse elimination. Existing problems are pointed out and future research directions are discussed.
