Substructure pseudodynamic test of multi-story structures with buckling-restrained braces

Abstract

The buckling-restrained brace (BRB) in the paper consists of a steel flat bar encased in a square steel tube which provides lateral support to the core and prevents global from buckling. In order to study the dynamic behavior of structures with BRBs, time-history analysis with ANSYS and substructure pseudodynamic tests of a two story building were carried out. The results demonstrate the stable hysteretic behavior and substantial energy absorption capacity of the brace. BRBs suppress significantly the seismic response and increase the aseismic capacity of the structure through inelastic deformation.
