Abstract

Ti6Al4V alloy samples were treated by oxygen plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) technique, and the treatment temperature was controlled in the range from 300°C to 400°C. The phase structure and surface morphologies of the specimens modified by different processing parameters were characterized by Glancing Angle X-ray Diffraction (GXRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), respectively. Moreover, the microhardness, friction and wear behavior were also measured. The results reveal that the rutile layers are formed on the surfaces of the samples and the modified surface becomes very rough. The microhardness of the sample treated at 390°C has been increases by 27%, and wear resistance is improved significantly.
