Abstract

In recent years direct driving technique with brushless DC (BLDC) motors is adopted more widely in clothes washers for energy saving, noise reduction and better performance. The rapid braking ability of this new structure is very important to its reliable operation. In this paper with the established analysis model the process of dynamic braking with a BLDC motor was presented, influences of motor parameters, inertia and speed to the braking time were studied, and a new simplified expression of the needed braking time was derived. Simulation and experiments of dynamic braking on a 5.0kg laundry top load clothes washer were finished, which proved that the above analysis was correct. The work has a good reference value for the application of BLDC motor in home appliances.
