Abstract

A numerical comparison method of planar six-bar dwell mechanism synthesis is studied. A six-bar dwell mechanism is composed of a basic four-bar linkage and an output RRR link-group. On the basis of kinematic theory of Burmester curves with constant curvature, line scanning method is presented to synthesize the basic four-bar linkage with a circle-arc segment on its linkage curve. Tangent line including method is put forward to synthesize the output RRR links group which satisfied with the output rocker's maximum angle of oscillation. Using the method studied to synthesize six-bar dwell mechanism, a series satisfactory results with dwell angle range from 25° to 140° and maximum output rocker angle of oscillation range from 10° to 160° can been obtained. A software package based on the method is developed to get the input of design requirements, and automatically select the optimum results from these available results. The method is illustrated by computer simulation on mechanism kinematics. Using the software, the design period of six-bar dwell mechanism with high precision is greatly shortened.
