Abstract

Steel plate shear wall (SPSW) structures have many advantages, such as high load-carrying capacity, good ductility and excellent energy dissipation capacity. When the SPSW is used in the concrete-filled steel tube frame, a new kind of composite structure (composite frame-SPSW system) appeares. The behaviors of composite frame-SPSW system and composite frame are introduced. Based on the experimental results, the function of SPSW to the composite frame was studied. A simplified model is developed for SPSW. The analysis results by the finite element software agree well with the experimental results, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed model. The research results show that SPSW structures exhibit high load-carrying capacity, good ductility and excellent energy dissipation capacity. The application of SPSW wall can increase the load-carrying capacity and energy dissipation capacity of composite frame evidently. The Combined Strip Model is effective in modeling the hysteretic behavior of SPSW. Those results can provide reference for the application of composite frame-SPSW system.
