Abstract

Using squeeze casting technique, an aluminum matrix composite reinforced by aluminum borate whisker coated with SnO2 was fabricated, and the whisker volume fraction was 20%. The microstructure of the coating, composite and interface were studied, and the tensile properties at high temperature for the composite were examined. The results indicate that the tensile strength of the composite decreases with the tensile temperature increasing. When the massive ratio between the coating and whisker is 1:10, the maximum tensile plasticity of the composite can be obtained at 300°C.
