Abstract

To address different patterns of rutting disease in asphalt pavement, ground penetrating radar (GRP) was used for rutting recognition. Based on the analysis of rutting types, some researches were carried out to get geometry characteristic factor of various rutting pattern. GPR was used to collect data in the test road for asphalt pavement detection. The data after processing could be calculated to get relation to the geometry characteristic factor, and the pattern of rutting disease could be confirmed accordingly. Two test examples were done to introduce this recognition method, and the conclusion indicates that the recognition results have good consistency with drilling-hole core test. As a rutting pattern recognition tool, GPR not only has a better accuracy and reliability, but also has the features of being non-destructive, rapid, convenient, etc. The technology proposed in this paper will do good for the future research of rutting disease in asphalt pavement.
