Abstract

Single cell and short stacks supported with electrolyte were prepared and operated under single chamber solid oxide fuel cell (SC-SOFC) condition. The single cell was tested to investigate the ratio of fuel and oxygen in the mixture working gas as well as the operating temperature. Then single electrolyte pellet-supported SC-SOFC stacks with 2 or 3 cells were fabricated and tested. A 2-cell stack could provide an the open circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.66 V that was lower than the OCV sum of near 2 V for two stand-alone SC-SOFCs, because some additional cells might form between each possible pair of anode and cathode on the same bulk electrolyte and depress the OCV of stack. The OCVs of a 3-cell stack were 2.758 V and 2.501 V, and the maximum powers (MP) were 20.76 mW and 16.02 mW, at 700°C and 750°C respectively.
