Abstract

Nano-phase Ni(OH)2 sample was prepared by coordination-precipitation method. The sample was identified to be β phase Ni(OH)2 by XRD, about 50nm in average grain size and had irregular shape by TEM. The positive electrode was prepared by mixing 8wt% sample with spherical Ni(OH)2 to carry out charge-discharge test, and the result showed that the specific capacity of the positive electrode was increased about 11%. Through thermo analysis, it was shown that nano-phase Ni(OH)2 prepared above was of higher electrochemical activity than spherical Ni(OH) 2, and the nano-electrode made by mixing nano-phase Ni(OH) 2 with spherical Ni(OH)2 had higher discharge capacity by Raman spectroscopy analysis. Also it was shown that Raman spectroscopy could be used to evaluate discharge performance of the positive electrode.
