Study on creep property of sapphire single crystal during nanoindentation

Abstract

The structural failure behavior was closed related with the creep property of sapphire single crystal. In this manuscript the creep properties of sapphire single crystal window material were tested and analyzed through nanoindentation. The results indicate that the creep stress exponent of sapphire single crystal was obtained accurately through nanoindentation; different maximum load of indentation had no obvious effect on creep displacement and creep stress exponent; however, the creep displacement decreased and the creep stress exponent increased with the decreasing of loading rate during nanoindentation.
