abstract = "To improve selectivity and sensitivity of conventional three-step current protection used by power supply and distribution line protection, theory and key technologies of adaptive three-step current protection are presented. It can calculate and update settings online automatically according to changes of power system's operating mode, fault type and line's load. Comparison with conventional three-step current protection is carried out. Results of sample analyzing indicate that adaptive three-step current protection can enlarge protection scope and improve selectivity and sensitivity. So, reliability and security of power supply and distribution line operation are improved.",
