Abstract

The paper evaluated the main performances of the low-speed, high-torque and direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor provided with fractional, slot concentrated windings. The finite element method is used to study the influence of the slots/pole combinations on the air gap flux density, the cogging torque and efficiency. The design principles of choosing slots/pole combination and motor structure for low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motor were given. A optimal slots/pole combination and motor design results of a low speed, high torque and direct drive permanent magnet synchronous motor(400W/45rpm/ 90N·m) were also raised.
