Abstract

Complexes of indole —3 —propanoate (IPA) and o—phenanthroline (phen) of formula M(IPA)3 (phen), M == La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu and Y, were synthesised. The complexes were characterized by micro analysis, IR, UV and “H NMR spectroscopies and thermal analysis. It is suggested that the complexes have octahedral coordination with bidentate phen and one bidentate and two monodentate IPA ligands. The effect of the lanthanum complex on the growth of wheat seedlings was briefly studied.
