Abstract

Laser processing was used to carry out laser cladding Cu/WCp composite coatings on 45 steel substrates. The influence rule of WC amount on the microstructure and the wear resistance of composite coatings was investigated. The results show that by adjusting the content of WC, α-Cu solid solution and WC diphasic tissue can be found; when the content of WC is above 30%, some dot-like WC particles will be found, which indicates that WC can melt and solute at a certain extent; between Cu/WCp composite coatings and metal matrix there is a transition region in which the microstructure are the compounds of steel substrate and WC. When the test of friction resistance of the Cu/WCp composite coating is conducted on 40Cr grinding wheel, the friction coefficient and the wearing amount are the least while the amount of WC is 10%. When the test of friction resistance is conducted on horniness alloy grinding wheel, the friction coefficient is the least while the amount of WC is 30%; the wearing amount is the least while the amount of WC is 10%.
