Abstract
Functionalization of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was important for application in catalytic realm. MWCNT was purified during the sonochemical treatment with nitric and sulfuric acids. At the same time, MWCNT was shortened and its ports were opened. MWCNT was also decorated by a great lot of oxygen-contained function groups on the surface and ports. It was good for the active elements to deposit on the surface uniformly. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Raman spectrum, Infrared spectrum (IR) was used to characterize the degree of surface functionalization and coverage. The PtRu catalyst which was supported with treated MWCNT was also studied in the way of Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and a better methanol electrooxidization activity was gained.
