Abstract
The energy consumption of a split air source heat pump defrosting is analyzed in detail. In a small artificial climate chamber, the multi-conditions frost/defrost experiments of a heat pump prototype had been carried out, and many defrosting parameters such as the system pressure, temperature, power etc. were measured. Through theoretical calculation and experimental data analysis some important characteristics of defrosting were obtained. The air source heat pump compressor work, inherent component cooling and heat absorbed from the indoor environment can be looked as the three main parts of the defrosting energy consumption. This paper's experimental results will provide the basis for optimization of the air-source heat pump system design and defrosting control methods.
