Abstract

Electrorheological (ER) fluids exhibit the characteristics of changing the rheological behavior in an electric field. This paper reviews briefly the recent status of electrorheological fluids application and development. A mechanism, component and controllable devices of the electrorheological fluids were also presented. For the double layer composite beams including the electrorheological fluids, the effect of electric field on the vibrational characteristics of beam was focused. The active controllable damper including the electrorheological fluids was studied, and the vibrational characteristics of the damper were also evaluated, when it was subjected to an external electric field.
