Abstract

The ceramic coating was prepared on steel plate by combustion synthesis method. The coating was investigated by means of XRD, SEM, EDS, micro-hardness measure and thermal shock resistance test. The microstructure and phase composition analyses on the synthesized sample show that the coating is a multiphase composite system consisting of, TiC, and α-Fe. The surface of coating is even and the interface of coating is metallurgical bonding. The micro-hardness of the coating is about 4 times higher than that of the substrate. The results of thermal shock resistance test show that the coating is of good bonding strength.
