Stress corrosion cracking and hydrongen induced cracking of aluminum matrix composites

Abstract

By using double-cantilever-beam (DCB) deflection, mode II constant load and slow strain rate tests (SSRT), the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) in SiCw/Al and AI18B4O33(w)/Al composites were studied. The results show that SCC HIC occur when 20%SiCw or 20%Al18B4O33(w) (volume fraction) are added in pure aluminum without SCC and HIC.
