Abstract
Based on the analysis of the loads of engine piston, mechanical and thermal boundary conditions of the piston were given. After finite element calculation, the mechanical, thermal and coupling stress of piston was obtained. The results show that the original piston has enough intension and possibility to be improved. The structure of short piston was employed to optimize this piston. After optimization, the compression height and mass of the piston are reduced. The structure of piston is more reasonable. The results of finite element calculation show that the stress and strain is in the range of design. The improvement of piston structure is successful.
