Abstract

Under the background of building an 800-meter span dome in cold region, the static and stability performance of double-layer reticulated shells were studied. The structural performances of pyramid Kiewitt spherical domes, truss Kiewitt spherical domes, pyramid Kiewitt catenary domes and pyramid geodesic domes were compared under the same geometric parameters and loads. Parametric analyses of span, rise-span ratio, thickness, grid number, supports and material strength were done. The influences on structural stiffness, stability performance and material consumption were discovered through about 600 calculation cases. Corresponding member sections were given. Research shows that Kiewitt and geodesic domes are appropriate for 800-meter span structures and the pyramid Kiewitt spherical dome has the best performance. This study provides valuable reference for super large span structures.
