Stability of symmetrical prismatic pressing spring

Abstract

In order to study the stability of symmetrical prismatic pressing spring, the comparative rigidity theory is applied; for critical load, the transverse instability conditions for the symmetrical prismatic pressing spring with small rising angles have been obtained, considering the effect of sheering forces. The effect on stability of different conditions was discussed. This paper points out some results, for example, the cylinder spiral spring can be treated as a special case of that of the symmetrical prismatic spring.
