abstract = "To improve the reliability of the land mobile satellite (LMS) communication system link, a space-time trellis code (STTC) transmission scheme based on a 2 ×2 dual-polarized land mobile satellite (LMS) MIMO channel is proposed in this paper. This STTC transmission scheme can offer not only polarization diversity gain, but also the additional coding gain comparing with the space-time block code (STBC) scheme. Particularly, the User Terminal (UT) antenna cross polarization discrimination (XPDant) and the satellite elevation angle θ are emphasized as important influencing parameters in terms of polarization. Increasing XPDant from 5dB to 15dB or θ from 40° to 60° can achieve 0.1dB∼0.3dB system performance improvement. In this case, the proposed STTC transmission scheme will achieve an effective and stable performance in the future LMS MIMO communication system.",
