Solar heated graphene-melamine foam for absorbing oil and organic solvents

Abstract

Superhydrophobic and superoleophilic graphene-melamine foam (rGO-MF) was prepared by simply soaking and chemical reduction process. The rGO-MF had a porous and repetitively compressible structure, together with excellent absorption capacity for various organic solvents. Besides, as a sorbent, the rGO-MF showed great recyclability. The absorption capacity and recovery efficiency of rGO-FM remained stable with excellent performance after 10 times cycle experiments. Additionally, the oil recovered from the sorbent was almost free from contamination. Moreover, solar heating was introduced to the absorbing process to accelerate the absorption speed and protect the porous structure of the sorbent. Thus, the rGO-MF has great potentials in the field of oil-absorption and oil-water separation.
