Abstract

Effects of SLM process parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-5Mg-0.75Sc alloy were investigated systematically. The results indicate that the SLM formed Al-5Mg-0.75Sc alloy is characterized by typical molten pool stack morphology. In a certain range, with increasing in the laser energy density, the density and Vickers hardness of SLM specimens are increased. When the energy density is 74.40 J/mm3, the mechanical properties are desirable, where the hardness reaches the maximum of 120 HV, and the tensile strength and elongation reach 443.5 MPa and 24%, respectively. The tensile fracture of SLM formed Al-5Mg-0.75Sc alloy is dominated by typical ductile fracture.
