Abstract

The hybrid treatment involved two or more surface modification techniques has great potential to meet the new requests of practical applications, which are unobtainable through any individual surface modification method. However, up to now, the design of a hybrid surface modification layer is a difficult job for researchers. In order to study the wear resistance of the hybrid layer fabricated by plasma immersion ion implantation and deposition (PIIID), a theoretical model for evaluating of the load bearing capacity was built. To save the simulation time, non-uniform grids were used in the simulation region. The simulation results reveal that the load bearing capacity of the TC4 substrate can be enormously improved by the PIIID hybrid treatment. Compared with the sample with a single layer, the wear life of the sample treated by PIIIID hybrid method was increased by 40 times.
