Abstract

To simplify an MR (magnetorheological) damper system and enhance its reliability, an adaptive MR damper based control system combined with a piezoelectric component is put forward. According to the piezoelectric effect, a piezoelectric device which can power the MR damper can convert structural vibration energy into electrical energy. The intenser vibration produces more electrical energy, and the more electrical energy leads to larger damping force and the larger damping force means the higher attenuation of structural vibration. The new control system has a well self-adaption performance. For the N26 cable model from Shandong Binzhou Yellow River Bridge and one five-storey building model, the adaptive systems are designed. Both models controlled by different control methods are respectively simulated in MATLAB. The adaptive MR control systems are proved to have good control efficacy.
